• SOLID WOOD: The most distinctive type of hardwood flooring; various styles of wood, colors, and grades are available. Solid wood flooring is available either prefinished or unfinished.
• ENGINEERED WOOD: Engineered wood flooring is a durable choice due to its flexibility – having the ability to function in areas with increased levels of moisture. It is essentially composite multilayered wood flooring (real wood being on the upper layer) that is oftentimes thinner than solid wood.
• LAMINATE FLOORING: While not usually the fanciest option, laminate flooring is usually one of the more cost-effective solutions. While it is not real wood at all, laminate flooring is crafted from Formica, and designed to imitate wood. This means that, compared to traditional hardwood floors, laminate flooring is not only far easier to install but also very easy to maintain as well.

Sanding and refinishing of solid hardwood floors has come a long way in the past years. Our sanding equipment has become virtually dustless, stains and finishes are low V.O.C, and curing times have shortened. For you as a customer this means:

• When sanding and refinishing a solid hardwood floor,

we completely remove the old finish until we arrive at “new” wood. Once stripped, we trowel fill the floor to remedy any separation of planks, little nicks and cracks in the wood. Next, we sand and hand edge your floors once again. After this step we apply the desired color or stain to your floor. If undecided, we can place sample color swabs on your floor for your selection at this point. At last we apply two coats of commercial grade finish on your floor to protect it. Our finish comes in different sheen levels from matte to gloss and, of course, your choice will be applied.

Sand and Refinish an Engineered Hardwood Floor

Sanding and refinishing of engineered hardwood floors is more complicated than refinishing a solid wood floor. Engineered wood floors usually consist of a plywood core and a thin wear layer of solid wood adhered to the top of it. If the wrong equipment is used, a sander will sand right through the wear layer and arrive at the plywood layer, effectively rendering your floor useless.

The process of sanding and refinishing an engineered hardwood floor is also much less intrusive than only a few years ago. All of the equipment used is 99.5% dustless (per manufacturer), all materials are low V.O.C and eco-friendly

Solid, as well as engineered hardwood floors, are usually finished with one or more coats of oil, or water-based polyurethane for protection. Although very strong and durable, these coatings can oxidize, wear and deteriorate over time. Some finishes are phototropic and “amber” over time, others turn “milky” or “dull”. What to expect from a re-coat?

When we buff and re-coat your hardwood floors, we abrade the top layer of the clear coat and remove any build-up and residue to assure perfect adhesion of the “new” coat. We then re-apply a compatible (oil or water-based) coat of finish on your floor of which you can determine the sheen level. In general, all our finishes are available in four sheen levels:

• Flat (matte): Almost unnoticeable on your floor- for the most natural look
• Satin: A barely noticeable, low reflection finish
• Semi-Gloss: Noticeable shine, some reflections
• Gloss: Highest shine and most reflections – Gives your floor that “Glass-covered” look

All our finishes are premium quality, commercial grade, low V.O.C, and eco-friendly. A buff and re-coat of a hardwood floor is the least intrusive flooring maintenance service and does not affect the wood itself. It preserves the floor in its current condition for years to come and if properly maintained, this will be the only hardwood flooring service you ever need. Scratches and indentations in the wood itself will not be remedied though, since the wood itself stays untouched. To remove scratches, indentations, discoloration or other damage in the wood itself, the finish has to be removed completely together with the top layer of hardwood.
